This story is being submitted as the fourth in a series of monthly articles about the Michigan Militia Cadets.  (June, 2009)

Melee May

I decided to dedicate the month of May to improving my melee skills.

Why, you ask?

Well, two reasons… both of which I feel new and experienced players alike should consider.

Physical Education

It’s always a good idea to get out and exercise a little bit, as a good cardio-vascular workout promotes increased health and overall fitness.  To learn more about how melee skilling can increase health (total hitpoints), please check out the following threads on EntropiaForum:

Got GOAL?!?

Every month, I think it is a good idea to set realistic, obtainable goals for different activities within Entropia.  As this universe can be whatever you choose to be, it is good to have a “purpose”, something you want to achieve.

Like crafting?  Set a goal to bring your current item BP up to 100 QR (Quality Rating).

Like mining?  Set a goal to mine a certain amount of a specific resource.

Like hunting?  Set a goal to skill a certain weapon, or hunt a specific mob.

What I do NOT recommend is setting “profit” goals within the game, as the “MA Variable” of loot may very well prevent you from achieving that goal.  If you really want to attempt a profit, maybe observe market trends of various items in auction and give trading a try.

Watch out in June, because I may very well be seen with <gasp> a laser weapons in my hand.
Be sure to get a screenshot of this rare occurrence if you see me.    Wink

Ahhh yes, goals. I have set many, and will achieve them all some day. I will one day be a "Grand Master Humanoid Investigator" and be able to tell what each of you is hiding under your armor just by glancing at you.

I will also one day in the distant future reach the level of "Grand Master Sweat Gatherer."  For right now though, I'll settle for level 50 in BLP Pistoleer and level 12 colorer. Anyone need something colored green?  Cool

A very achievable goal for you this month Naht is to pick up a few CB5's and get enough skill points to graduate on rifle, see if we can get that "Mentor Monkey" off your back.   Cool

Well I will color green for free if the item & the paint are provided Smile Actually, I will color orange, blue, yellow, steel blue, olive, and green for free. I seem to have about a 98% success rate with 150 cans per field. With orange, blue, and yellow I seem to have about a 70-80% success rate with as few as 50 cans.

Next unlock is purple at level 12. When the colors are first unlocked it seems to be around a 90% success rate with 200 cans. After purple I believe the next unlock is brown at level 12.5. Smile

Personally I like the combination of hunting, mining AND crafting.
Set a goal to craft GEC spurs for example.  The BP calls for thyroid oil and standard plates.
So go hunting specific mobs that drop thyroid oil and collect a bunch.
Standard plates require Belkar and Oil.  So go mining for those.
Once you've got all the ingredients, have some fun crafting.
My general philosophy is to run ALL of your loot through the crafting machine.
That way you got skill when you hunted or mined it and then you get more skill
when you craft with it.
