I draw your attention to a post I have placed on Nvidia forums:
 http://forums.nvidia.com/index.php?showtopic=156037

Presently I can only run my computer at all by physically removing the GPU (9800 GT) and going back to the motherboard intel graphics thingo.

Months ago, just after VU10, I had the same problem - persisting malfunction of GPU/Driver. The malfunctions persist through uninstall/reboot/reinstall/reboot, even through uninstall/physically remove/reboot/re-install scenarios.

Inexplicably, after months getting on with RL things with native graphics, a reinstall worked.

Today the same problem has occurred, with persistent effects, problems persisting through any uninstall/reinstall scenario.

I wonder if there is corrupted stuff written to any part of the GPU memory, persisting (even after removal) and causing the problem, or if something in the OS has been corrupted.

Prior to this problem today, I had numerous nv4_disp.dll crashes - but only when I went near Eviscerators. I wonder if they are more graphically challenging than other mobs.

Todays crash, with apparently long term effect, will lock me out of the game - again.

I know that you (MA) were working with people from Nvidia at and after the launch of VU10. I will be surprised if there are not other players with this problem, and amazed if the people at Nvidia have not heard of GPU crashes with permanent harm to graphics.

Someone must be able to help me.

Hi,
In order to investigate your problem further, we advise you to choose the ?Run? option from the Start menu and enter dxdiag if you use Windows XP. If you use Windows Vista, enter dxdiag in the search window in the Start menu and press enter. The DirectX diagnostics tool will open, where you will find a tab called "Save Information". Please save the information as plain text and and attach the file to this support case. You can also send the resulting ?Dxdiag.txt? text document via email to entropia_support@mindark.com with you case number as subject.
Once we receive the file we will be able to investigate your problem further.
Kind regards,
Entropia Universe Support

I have submitted a DxDiag but one produced yesterday only after removal of the GPU, which no doubt is not much good. DxDiag would not run properly in safe mode with GPU installed, and nothing can be run at all with GPU installed in normal boot mode.

When I have time, later tonight, I will attempt to reinstall GPU again - for the 6th time - and try to produce a DxDiag with it installed.

I think in safe mode, the GPU is not operating in such a way as it can properly be interrogated by DxDiag. In normal mode, with GPU installed, I cannot get a desktop to run anything.

I have uninstalled/rebooted x 2 several times, prior to reinstalling GPU and latest driver, which I saved to disk from Nvidia. Nothing changes.

More than perplexed - I just cashed up my avatar too.

Hi,
Your error report indicates that the problem is related to something within your computer system. The Support Dept. work with technical support for the Entropia Universe only, and it is very difficult, if not impossible, for us to have information regarding all types of hardware and software combinations compatible with the Entropia Universe. However, we can give you some general advice for hardware related issues:
-Make sure you have the latest released and updated drivers for your graphics card, see information under the ?Download? section on the web site.
-Sometimes issues can be related to the fact that an older driver version was at some point not completely uninstalled, or that something else went wrong during the download or installation. It can be worth a try to make a complete uninstallation, and then download and reinstall the drivers again.
- Check the temperature in your system and make sure that the cooling of your system is sufficient.
- Make sure the power supply in your system is sufficient, especially after hardware changes.
Unfortunately, this is all the advice we have for you at this point. We hope that you will be able to pinpoint the problem in your system, and if so, you are very welcome to send us information to share with other participants.
Kind regards,
Entropia Universe Support

I cannot get DxDiag to run in Normal Mode with GPU installed.

Yes its an internal problem, but it was caused by running Entropia Universe.

I identified two problems to you.

Lesser problem was frequent crashing of nv4_disp.dll - a perrenial problem which I have discovered has plagued gamers for some years. Immediate fix is reboot. As for adressing causde of crash, one would have thought you'd have some interest in that.

Major problem is the permanent effect of crashing the other day. I now think the problem is that GPU RAM has corrupted data/garbage residually remaining. I detailed the whole thing in a long post intended for here bnut lost all my work because the login here timed out.

I now just refer you to my further posts here:

The corruption to GPU RAM occurred during game play. The 9800 GT is not the latest card available, but I would have thought far from obsolete. People play with lesser cards.

Though obviously an internal problem, it is not caused by any defect in my hardware (GPU drivers aside). It occurred because I entered and played EU. My system fulfils your requirements.

Naturally I am aware you cannot cover all hardware configurations. This problem has occurred twice now, and accounts for my absence from the game for months and months on end. The card was bought specifically in anticipation of VU10. I've had about 2 weeks worth of use out of it. Probably Nvidia people would know which prt of GPU memory has been corrupted and maybe what to do about it.

No other thing I play or do has caused any problem. It is definietely a compatibility issue of Cryengine2 and Nvidia, a matter that should be of some interest to MA.

There is something funny about EU and graphics cards... it eats them up. Last night while I was playing (and mind you, I can only run EU on low/medium settings with the card that I have - NVidia 7600) things became all sorts of psychedelic colors. Trees were purple and white, my gun turned red, my armor had blue reflections on it, etc. Now, I've had this card for months and have been running everything else with no problems whatsoever, but I log into EU and everything starts going funny. Everything returned to normal again after logging out of EU last night, and I haven't had another problem since, but I'm willing to bet it'll happen again when I log into EU.

Now you're getting me scared... Not sure I'll want to jump in after I put together a new system and fork out $200 for a video card.
